The Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences (CGS) provides the framework for doctoral education of the entire Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. Founded in 2008, it has established itself as one of the few graduate schools worldwide that is distinguished by a high degree of multi-disciplinary research across the fields of management, economics and social sciences. We offer a friendly, supportive and stimulating research environment for doctoral students which creates the ideal conditions for lively and open-minded exchange as well as individual progress in research.

The CGS doctoral study programme provides rigorous training in theoretical foundations and empirical methods as well as their application to business, public policy and societal problems. Besides the study programmes in management, economics and social sciences, the specialised graduate programm in Economic Research is also available at CGS.

Your study programme at CGS

CGS offers doctoral study programmes following completion of a master’s degree in management, economics, social sciences or related fields. In the study programme, each discipline includes core, field-specific courses complemented by elective courses across disciplines.

We also offer an integrated graduate programme in economics, first starting with the master’s programme Ms. Economic Research  followed by a second phase in which students develop research projects in their dissertation and finish with a PhD.
