Associated Research Units

  • GK SOCLIFE: Soclife focuses on quantitative cross-national comparisons in the social and economic sciences. Its research is characterized by simultaneously analyzing influences of individual factos and of country-level factors - such as social order of politics, economics, civil society of the history of countries - on people's attitudes or behavior.
  • IMPRS-SPCE: The International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy.
  • Psychoeconomics: The research unit "Psychoeconomics" brings together researchers from different disciplines in a joint effort to develop an integrative, data-driven understanding of how interacting motives and strategies determine actual human behavior, how human agents can regulate the resulting decision conflict to learn from it, and what are the economic consequences of decision conflicgts and their regulation.

  • Design and Behavior: The research unit aims at engineering mechanisms in firms and markets based on sound behavioral research.

  • C-SEB: The Center for Social and Economic Behavior (C-SEB) at the University of Cologne (UoC) brings together Cologne-based researchers from economics, management science, and psychology. Together with internationally renowned scientists from Europe and the USA they investigate the fundamental principles and behavioral mechanisms that affect social and economic behavior.

  • EWI: The Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) is one of Europe’s leading research institutes in the field of energy economics. Focusing on energy markets and infrastructures, the institute is especially competent in issues regarding the electricity, coal and natural gas markets, particularly when using complex energy economics simulation models. It also researches the consequences of current or potential regulatory state interventions into these markets.
